What this site is
The notes here are written for residents rather than arborists. Each one stays close to questions that come up before and after a tree goes in the ground: whether a species suits the site, who owns the land, what a permit covers, and how to keep a young tree alive through its first seasons.
How the content is prepared
The material is compiled from publicly available sources, including federal guidance from Natural Resources Canada, the national non-profit Tree Canada, and the urban forestry pages published by individual municipalities such as Toronto and Vancouver. Where exact figures vary by location, the notes use neutral descriptions and point readers to the authoritative source for their address.
Not an official authority
Willow Corner House is an independent reference site and is not a municipal department or government body. Rules on planting, pruning and removal differ between cities and change over time, so the relevant municipality is always the final word for a specific property.
How to read the notes
The three articles are written to be read in order — species, then planting, then care and permits — but each also stands on its own. Internal links connect related points, and every article lists the public references it draws on.
